Star Profile: Meet Nasiimu Mutesi who Beat All Odds to Progress to Senior National Team
Few can identify or even guess the star we have in the building this time, she secured a surprise place at the National Team, the she Cranes immediately after finishing her secondary school education.
The star in the making is National Insurance Corporation Netball Club defender, Nasiimu Mutesi.
The talent from Semuto, Nakaseke District in Luweero Triangle, happened to see her maiden sunlight in June, 6th, 2001 (20 years). The collaboration of Mr. Musa Mafumo and Mrs. Nassolo Rehemah produced a talent, Uganda and NIC proud of today.
Mutesi is the second born in the family of four children, two of them, Mutesi inclusive are Netball players, Elder brother, Kozaala Bruhan is a boxer and the last born is expected to be a Netballer.
Currently, Munta Royal College and Masaka SS are not powerhouses in the game of netball, few of those schools have produced talent on national teams but with no limelight, Mutesi gained her national team call (U21) before elevating to Senior team in a very brief duration.
Before playing a national league game for NIC, a club she joined in 2020, Mutesi first featured for National team, the She Cranes in 2021 Tri-Nation Series held in South Africa.
Education Journey:
Mutesi Nasiimu started her elementary education at Ellen White Bright Future Primary School Semuto in 2005 and left the parent school to Kazo Junior School-Kawempe, a Kampala Suburb where she sat her PLE in 2013, he studied from this Junior School for one year.
For Ordinary level, the NIC wing Defender, went to Munta Royal College Bombo, Luweero District, spent three years at the school, 2014-2016 and then left to Prosper High School Mattuga- Busiikiri where she acquired her Uganda Certificate of Education in 2017.
For Advanced level, Mutesi switched to Masaka Secondary School in 2018 where she sat her UACE Examinations in 2019, She did HEL/ICT (History, Entrepreneurship,Luganda/Information Technology).
Currently, she is pursing Bachelors in Business Administration at Victoria University.
Netball Journey:
You can’t trace any tracks of Mutesi playing Netball in primary school and actually none knew that she will be a national team material even basing on schools she went too at primary level.
But when she joined secondary at Munta Royal College, she started playing, later joined the school team, in some of the tournaments she played, coach Santino Maduti spotted her while she was in senior at Prosper High School and took her to Masaka Secondary School in 2018. She played for the side for two years and in that spell, she was a captain.

Mutesi says, her dad was so supportive to her and one of those who inspired her to love the game the more.
Before joining NIC, she was first spotted by National team scouts.
“When we were in Nationals in 2019 in Soroti, I was spotted by National team U21, that team was going to represent Uganda in Youth World Cup in Fiji but unfortunately covid disrupted us.” Mutesi Nasiimu says.
In her journey to national team, Mutesi credit, Coach Mugisha Ali who introduced her to NIC head coach, Vicent Kiwanuka and the club manager Ucanda.
