On 24th February, 2021 the commission customs, Uganda Revenue Authority wrote to National Unity Platform Principal, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine to take back his gifted bulletproof vehicle for re-examination.
This news made public to lift their lids, punching holes in Uganda’s systems on how they unprofessionally perform their work.
Yesterday, Wameli and Company Advocates and Solicitors, on behalf of Kyagulanyi wrote to the Commission customs URA reminding them that they don’t have automatic powers to re-examine Kyagulanyi’s vehicle and asked them to withdraw their decision because it is unsupported for and it is under no any law.
“Much as it is true you have the powers under section 236 (d) of the EAC customs management Act to “examine” goods, you do not have automatic powers to “re-examine” goods which were in your custody (ware house), were examined, assessed to tax, the tax fully paid and the goods released to the owner/Taxpayer.” Letter dated 26, February 2021 read in parts.
“Your decision to recall our client’s motor vehicle is not only arbitrary and without legal basis but it is also a threat to our client’s right to property and privacy, among others.
This is to therefore demand that you immediately withdraw your decision to recall our Client’s motor vehicle as long as such decision is arbitrary and unsupported by any law.” The letter continues to read.
It should be recalled that at the start of this week, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu posted on his facebook page a motor vehicle to which he said that it is a bulletproof vehicle that was donated to him by Ugandans who care more about his safety.
